Our Purpose

College is one of the most pivotal times of our lives. When you take your first step onto campus, you really have no clue what you are getting yourself into. College is where we find ourselves. We find our identity. It is the first time we are truly on our own. Before this time, we had been guided by our parents, our friends, and many other influences, but now, our choices are our own. This opens up doors that we had no clue existed before, and often times, we open them without knowing the consequences that lay behind them. Throughout our college experience, we have ideas and knowledge being thrown at us from every direction, and with no one else guiding us, we are on our own to choose what we believe. During this time, our lives are shaped in numerous ways. The major we choose leads to the career we pursue after graduation. The everyday choices we make form habits that last a lifetime. The relationships we choose to pursue determine the kind of man or woman we want to marry. For some of us, we may even find our spouse in college. The truth we choose to believe defines the manner in which we live the rest of our lives. In short, the life we live in college creates the foundation upon which we build the rest of our life.

As we, Jake and Chandler, have experienced, God uses our college years to mold us and change us into the person He wants us to be, and everything that follows these years stems from who we become in college. So we started this blog with the desire to share our experiences with you. Now we are not perfect by any means, nor have we experienced everything, but we have learned many lessons about how to live a Christ-honoring life throughout college. Some of these lessons were learned the hard way through mistakes while others were learned by God blessing us and opening our eyes before we stepped into sin and temptation. So we hope to write and share from our own experiences, but our experiences are not what points others to the solid foundation of the Cornerstone.

This is where we admit we are imperfect and sinful, and we have to look outside of our experiences in order to lead others to see Christ.  With that said, we hope College on the Cornerstone would be a place that provides Biblical truth for you to stand firm upon in college. With so many different world views being pushed upon us on college campuses, we want to create a blog that will share the world view that is seen through the lens of Scripture. We want to equip you to “see to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit according to human tradition” (Col. 2:8), but instead, to “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5). In a world full of relative and ever changing truth, we pray this blog would motivate our generation to stand upon the absolute and eternal truth, the Word of God.

One more thing we pray this blog would be for you is a place of encouragement. Just as Paul says in 1 Thes. 5:11,  we hope this blog would lead us to, “encourage one another and build one another up.” So many times as believers in college, we buy into Satan’s lie that we are the only ones living a Christian life around us. In order to combat this lie, we are structuring this site in a way for you to find hope in community, and for you to see that there are believers across the nation that are living their lives for Christ during their college years. One of the ways we feel we can encourage one another is by sharing our stories with one another. Another is to post the top questions among believers in college, and then do our best to answer them in a blog form or provide resources that will give you a Biblical answer. In the future, we hope to implement many new ways that will make College on the Cornerstone an encouraging, Christ-centered community.

With all that said, our main purpose is this: for God to build in you a foundation of faith in college that will propel you into a lifelong pursuit of Christ. With all of that said, this blog is not about Jake and Chandler. This blog is about giving God glory and creating a community that encourages others to seek His face.

This year in college/university has been my first full year of following Jesus, and it has been wonderful (difficult at times of course, but more than worth it). Every time I read your posts, it turns me back to God if I have started to stray and puts things in perspective. Even though these truths are not always easy to hear, I still come away encouraged and feeling closer to God after reading this blog. God is so good, and I think it’s really exciting to see him work through you both.
    Sincerely,
    A girl from Vancouver, Canada
